The firm

A team practice — not a solo-attorney brand.

Metler Law is the personal-injury practice at MHM MacArthur Heder Metler Attorneys at Law, a Provo-based law firm serving injured Utahns across the state. Jeff Metler founded the practice and remains its lead trial attorney, but day-to-day case work is handled by a coordinated team of personal-injury attorneys, case managers, and intake staff.

Every case the firm takes is staffed by a primary attorney plus a dedicated case manager. The attorney handles strategy, negotiation, and litigation; the case manager keeps you informed, schedules medical providers, gathers records, and stays in regular touch — so nobody gets stuck in voicemail during the most stressful months of their life.

Our practice is intentionally narrow: car-accident personal injury only. Rear-end, rollover, intersection, hit-and-run, uninsured motorist, rideshare, motorcycle, commercial truck, and pedestrian cases. That focus is the point. Insurance carriers are organized, well-funded, and patient; matching them takes preparation, not volume.

The insider advantage

We know how insurers think —
because some of us used to work for them.

Our team includes attorneys who previously worked on the carrier side of personal-injury claims — including former in-house counsel at a global insurance company. They've seen exactly how adjusters evaluate claims, where they look for reasons to discount, how they delay payment, and what actually moves a file toward fair value.

We've also worked alongside judicial law clerks who served four district court judges in Utah's First Judicial District — so we know what makes a Utah judge take a case seriously, and what makes one lose patience with a carrier's defense.

That insider perspective doesn't guarantee an outcome. But it does mean the carrier across the table from us is not negotiating with someone who just learned how their playbook works.

Meet the attorneys

The lawyers who'll actually be on your case.

Every Metler client gets a primary attorney from this team — not a screener, not a call center, not an unnamed associate.

Jeff Metler
Founding Attorney

Jeff Metler

Lead trial attorney. Two decades of representing injured Utahns against insurance carriers.

Jeff founded the personal-injury practice at MacArthur, Heder & Metler and has spent his career representing injured Utahns in car, truck, motorcycle, and pedestrian cases.

He's tried cases to verdict, negotiated against every major insurance carrier doing business in Utah, and built a reputation for telling clients the truth about their case — even when it's not what they want to hear.

Jeff lives in Utah County and personally handles every case the firm takes. You'll talk to him directly, not just a case manager.

After graduation he practiced corporate and securities law at the New York office of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, one of the largest international law firms in the world.

Trevor returned to Utah in 2012 to join MacArthur, Heder & Metler, where he now works directly with Jeff Metler on personal-injury cases for clients across the state.

Brent Johnson
Personal Injury Attorney

Brent Johnson

Former insurance-defense attorney. Knows exactly how carriers devalue claims — and how to push back.

Brent works with Jeff Metler on personal-injury cases. Before joining MacArthur Heder & Metler, he spent several years as an in-house attorney for a global insurance company, defending the carrier side of claims.

He's also represented a wide range of clients in private practice, from large financial institutions to individual Utahns, and previously served as a judicial law clerk for four district court judges in Utah's First Judicial District.

That insider experience matters: Brent has seen firsthand how insurers evaluate, delay, and devalue claims, and he uses that knowledge to push back on behalf of injured clients.

How working with our team feels

Steady, focused, never rushed.

Most of our consultations start the same way: someone hurt, overwhelmed, already getting calls from an adjuster they don't trust. We slow it down. We listen first. We answer the questions you came in with, and a few you didn't know to ask.

Then your attorney and case manager build a plan together — medical care coordination, evidence preservation, the carrier conversation, and what we'd do next if you were our family.
